The Burden of Responsibility

I'm feeling rather relieved today. Apparently what happens between my brother-in-law and my thirteen-year-old nephew is none of my business. There have been strong tensions between them and I have been very worried.

No longer need I worry when he yells at my nephew over things his little brother starts. Its none of my business.

No longer need I worry over my nephew having a fixation with knives and cigarette lighters. Its none of my business.

No longer need I worry about my nephew talking about running away. Its none of my business.

No longer need I worry about my nephew rapidly losing interest in things he use to enjoy. Its none of my business.

All of this is a relief to me. I would feel so guilty if it was my fault if he ran away, got started with drugs and alcohol, or committed suicide.

After all ... its none of my business.

Birth of The Planetary Agenda

The Planetary Agenda represents a rebirth of the Social Policy Center I use to post periodically. This rebirth is two-fold. First, as I approach the completion of my Master's degree, I am beginning to shift my focus from education to action. Subsequently, I am returning to my social policy writing, but with a greater appreciation for what my readers will expect of me as an up-and-coming writer. Secondly, and with equal appreciation, I have also come to realize that commentary on national policies, though important, are insufficient to address the needs of humanity. To be meaningful, I am restarting my writing with a global/planetary perspective.

Parallel to this launching I am starting a new organization: Homeworld Foundation. Part of Homeworld's mission is to free academic and scientific knowledge from the strangle hold of corporate profiteers and to direct that knowledge towards the development of human civilization and assuring the long-term survival of humanity. I see the current attacks against and sequestration of academic and scientific knowledge by corporate and governmental organizations to be an unacceptable threat to human freedom and survival. This blog, and the articles that will be posted to it, are in pursuit of this viewpoint and agenda.

Until then, be well, my friends.
